ALLEGED SEXUAL MISCONDUCT BY A STUDENT OF THE FACULTY: A CALL FOR CAUTION AND RESTRAINT

Desr GREAT LAWSANITES,

The Faculty of Law, University of Abuja has received a report concerning an alleged incidence of sexual assault involving a member of our student community. The nature of this allegation has understandably generated concern within and beyond the Faculty, and it is one we approach with the seriousness it demands.

The Faculty’s position is firm, clear and unequivocal: any proven case of any form of sexual misconduct or gender-based violence is totally inconsistent with our values and will not be tolerated.

In response, the Faculty has initiated its internal processes in line with University regulations to ascertain the facts in a fair, thorough, and impartial manner. Beyond this, we emphasize our clear and unreserved readiness to work with all relevant security and law enforcement agencies in order to unravel all relevant facts in this matter. Where the circumstances so require, the Faculty will fully support and cooperate in the investigation and prosecution of the matter to ensure that justice is properly served to all concerned

At the same time, we urge all Lawsanites to exercise restraint and professionalism. The integrity of any investigation depends not only on institutional processes but also on the conduct of members of the community. The Faculty remains committed to safeguarding the rights of all parties involved, while also ensuring that appropriate support is available to anyone affected.

Let your conduct at this point reflect the discipline, balance, and sense of justice which the study of law demands.

Yours faithfully,

Musa Yahaya, ESQ.
