The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, led by Air Vice Marshall Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (retd), has confirmed full compliance with extant laws and due process in appointing Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor.

In response to allegations of procedural breaches, Acting Registrar and Secretary to the Council Mrs. Islamiyat F. Adulrahim said the Council emphasized that the appointment, announced on December 31, 2024, adhered strictly to the University of Abuja Act and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act 2003, NO 1 of 2007.

The Council acknowledged concerns from some stakeholders during the transition process, which began in March 2024 with an open advertisement for the position.

Efforts, she said, were made to address these concerns, ensuring stakeholder involvement, including the Senate and the local Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

With 87 candidates vying for the position, the Council urged all participants to demonstrate sportsmanship, enabling Professor Maikudi to implement her vision for the university in a collaborative and harmonious environment.
