The Senate of the University of Abuja has approved the expulsion of 28 students for offences, including cult-related activities, examination malpractice, drug possession, and threats to life.
The decision was reached at the institution’s 191st Regular Senate Meeting after reviewing a report from the Student Disciplinary Committee.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, the affected students were found guilty of serious misconduct such as assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft and falsification of O’Level results used for admission.
The Senate also approved the withdrawal of certificates earlier issued to 15 former students who reportedly failed to honour repeated invitations from the disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile, nine students were cleared of wrongdoing after investigations, while 33 others received warnings over offences, including hostel racketeering, conspiracy, and fighting.
Vice-Chancellor and Senate Chairman, Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, said the university would not compromise academic standards or tolerate actions that threaten campus safety.
He stressed that disciplinary measures were aimed at protecting academic integrity while guiding students towards responsible conduct.
Fawehinmi added that the university was strengthening counselling, orientation, and student engagement programmes to prevent future infractions, as management intensified efforts to curb cultism, examination fraud and other forms of indiscipline on campus.
