In a decisive move to address internal displacement in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, the Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the United Nations, has launched the States Action Plans on Durable Solutions to Internal Displacement.
“We will stand behind you. Let me reiterate our commitment on behalf of the United Nations: We will keep supporting on the ground; We will help rally donors; We will chase missing partners; We will celebrate your successes,” declared Robert Piper, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Solutions to Internal Displacement, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The newly launched Action Plans are rooted in international standards and the Kampala Convention, driven by strong political leadership, and aimed at mobilizing development investments.

Vice-president of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, stressed the importance of investing in sustainable development, education, and economic opportunities to build resilient communities.
He stated, “We must address the immediate needs of the displaced while creating a foundation for a stable and prosperous future.”
Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed commended the governments of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe for their proactive measures, noting that durable solutions are crucial for achieving sustainable development goals.
“Our joint efforts must promise inclusive governance, human dignity, and a world where we leave no one behind,” she emphasized.
British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery, representing the North-East Ambassador Group, voiced support for the Nigerian government’s initiatives, underlining the collective international interest in fostering peace and sustainable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The launch event saw the presence of key figures including the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum; Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni; Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; and Bello Hamman Diram, representing the Governor of Adamawa State.
