UN Resident Coordinator advocates global unity to overcome hardest challenges

The United Nations in Nigeria, in collaboration with partners, has convened a strategic dialogue on the United Nations at 80 and the Pact for the Future.

The event, held at the UN House in Abuja, brought together critical stakeholders to discuss the importance of international cooperation in solving the world’s most challenging issues.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, emphasised the importance of global unity in overcoming even the hardest challenges.

The Pact rests on five pillars: Sustainable development, Peace and security, Science and technology, Youth and future generations, and transforming global governance.

The UN is working hand in hand with Nigeria to align cooperation with the five pillars of the Pact and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar (Retd) stressed the need for tangible results from dialogue and commitment to concrete steps that will align every peacebuilding effort towards real progress.

The Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni expressed appreciation for the dialogue, stating that it was a collective effort to advance the effective realization of the Pact for the Future and reinforce Nigeria’s peacebuilding framework.

Director of the United Nations’s Team for Pact Implementation, Themba Kalua, underlined Nigeria’s leadership role in this new era of multilateralism and the alignment of the Pact with African priorities and national strategies.

The Pact for the Future strongly resonates with Africa’s Agenda 2063, envisioning a just, peaceful, and prosperous continent.

Nigeria’s experience and leadership at regional and global levels make it a vital partner in this endeavor.

The event highlighted the importance of global unity and cooperation in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.
