Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh consecutive term as Uganda’s president, extending his nearly four-decade hold on power after the disputed January election.

The 81-year-old, who seized power as a rebel commander in 1986, was inaugurated Tuesday at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala amid heavy security and armoured vehicles across the city, according to the BBC.

Election authorities said Museveni won more than 70% of the vote, with the new term set to run until 2031.
