The University College Hospital, Ibadan, has commenced the process of desilting its water dam in Agodi.
According to a statement by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Toye Akinrinlola, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, while on an assessment tour of the dam, stated that the step became necessary in order to improve water supply to the Hospital.
He added that the infrastructure in the Hospital were being rehabilitated and by the time this was completed, “we don’t want to face another challenge of water shortage.”
According to Professor Otegbayo, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) was renovating five blocks in the Hospital.
“This is like a revolution to our facilities. Everything is wearing a new look. The water reticulation is being done; the entire sewage system is being done.
“As a management, we also have to be proactive by working on our dam at Dandaru to ensure steady and regular water supply to the Hospital when the renovation going on now is completed.”
The CMD noted that the experience the Hospital was currently having while the renovation was going on might not be palatable but stated that the aftermath would be pleasant to our patients.
He assured stakeholders that desilting the dam would permanently lay to rest the issue of water shortage, while the environment of the Hospital would be cleaner and healthier.
Otegbayo said: “we are a responsible and reputable organisation. We have the patients’ comfort as our priority and we cannot afford to fail in the task.”
