U.S. Congresswoman Sara Jacobs has condemned President Donald Trump’s recent threat to deploy military force in Nigeria over claims of a Christian genocide, calling the comments dangerous and unfounded.

Speaking on Thursday during a congressional hearing on Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern, Jacobs said Trump’s remarks oversimplify the complex nature of violence in the country and risk escalating tensions.

“Trump’s threat is reckless, and any unilateral military action in Nigeria is illegal.

“Congress has not authorised the use of force in Nigeria to protect Christians,” she said.

Jacobs, a Democrat representing California’s 51st Congressional District and a ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Africa, stressed that the conflict in Nigeria is not exclusively religious.

According to her, both Christians and Muslims are victims of widespread insecurity driven by terrorism, banditry, and communal clashes.

The lawmaker also called on the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to safeguard citizens across all regions, noting that sustainable security reforms remain essential to stabilising the country.
