Atletico Madrid have announced two of their senior players have tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of their Champions League quarterfinal clash with German side, Red Bull Leipzig.
Atletico on Sunday said they had informed every authority that should know and would undergo the necessary steps as outlined by UEFA.
“Among the results known today, two positives have appeared, which are isolated in their respective homes, and which were immediately communicated to the Spanish and Portuguese health authorities, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Portuguese Federation and the Higher Sports Council.’’
Atletico defeated Liverpool to make it to the quarterfinal and will play in a new round-robin system in Portugal against Leipzig.
It is clear that the club will be without the players for the game, and the news may threaten the game itself, and by extension, others.
