The bandits who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train reportedly killed the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Secretary-General, Barrister Musa Lawal Ozigi.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, scores of passengers were either killed, abducted or injured during the attack on Monday night.

The online newspaper quoted a source to have said eight passengers had now been confirmed dead as the search-and-rescue mission continued in the area.

“Ozigi, a barrister, was killed by the bandits during the attack. We just received the information. Eight persons have been confirmed dead so far,” Sahara Reporters quoted the source.

Later on Tuesday, Ozigi’s death was confirmed by a former President of the TUC, Peter Esele, in a terse statement.

The statement reads: “The choice of being born in this country wasn’t yours to make. One thing I can attest to is your love and optimism for this country.

“Yesterday (Monday), the terrorists put off your light as you travelled by train to Kaduna.

“Thank you for all the beautiful memories, our many travels over the years. Now your journey has ended, and another has begun. May the light and love of God, lead you on. Goodbye my Comrade SG.”
