United States President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. military was forcefully striking Iran but warned that a larger phase of the conflict was still ahead.
In a nine-minute phone interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Trump said the United States was “knocking the crap” out of Iran.
“We’re knocking the crap out of them,” Trump said. “I think it’s going very well. It’s very powerful. We’ve got the greatest military in the world and we’re using it.”
● Conflict expected to escalate
Trump said the “big wave” in the war with Iran has not yet taken place.
“We haven’t even started hitting them hard. The big wave hasn’t even happened. The big one is coming soon,” he said.
The president addressed a range of topics during the interview, including the expected length of the conflict, his surprise at Iran’s widespread retaliation and the country’s expected succession plan.

Asked whether the U.S. is doing more beyond the military assault to help the Iranian people regain control of their country from the regime, Trump responded, “Yes.”
“We are indeed. But right now we want everyone staying inside. It’s not safe out there,” he said.
U.S. and Israel launched a major offensive against Iran on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and regional sites hosting US military assets, heightening tensions across the Middle East.
