According to a report by Raw Story on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, a Harvard psychiatrist has sounded the alarm about former President Donald Trump’s mental state, saying he has used language that mirrors that of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Dr. Leonard Glass, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, spoke to New York Times columnist Thomas Edsall about Trump’s recent references to his opponents as “vermin” and “poisoning the blood of our country”, which he said showed he had crossed into “new terrain”.

Glass said that Trump’s language, which he must know replicates that of Hitler, reveals that he is motivated by grandiosity and terror of exposure, such as in the trials he faces for various crimes.

Glass cautioned that if Trump returns to the presidency, he could behave like the authoritarian leaders he respects, and cause violence and bloodshed on American soil.

He said that Trump would fill his administration with loyalists who would not restrain him, as some of his aides barely did in his first term.

Glass said that Trump could view himself as “the only one” and a “purifying agent of God”, and that his supporters would blindly follow him and rationalize his actions.

Glass’s remarks echo those of other mental health experts who have raised concerns about Trump’s psychological condition and its consequences for democracy.

In 2017, Glass co-edited a book called The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, in which 27 psychiatrists and mental health professionals evaluated Trump’s mental health and warned of the dangers he posed.

Dr Glass and his colleagues also advocated for the use of the 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a president who is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.

However, Glass said that the 25th Amendment was not enough to protect the country from Trump, and that the American people had to be alert and resist his attempts to undermine democracy.

He said that Trump’s lies, propaganda, and incitement of violence were similar to the tactics used by Hitler and other fascists to gain and maintain power.

He urged the public to learn from history and not to fall for Trump’s manipulation and deception.

He said that Trump was a threat not only to the United States, but to the world, and that he had to be stopped before he caused more harm. [feednews.com]
