The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has ordered strike in states that have yet to implement the minimum wage.

The Congress expressed displeasure over what it described as a deliberate refusal of some states government to implement the new national minimum wage signed into law since 2018.

Consequently, the National Executive Council of NLC has directed all states NLC councils where the national minimum wage of #30,000 has yet to be paid to immediately proceed on an indefinite industrial action.

The directive was contained in a communique issued and signed by the President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of NLC held in Abuja.

The Congress warned that apart from the directive to workers in such states to proceed on strike, the NLC NEC would take very drastic action as circumscribed by the law against states government that refused to pay the new minimum wage and minimum pension.

In the communiqué, the Congress rejected the concession of Nigeria’s airports and planned privatization of the air transport sector,m.

It described the move as a disservice to the Nigerian workers especially those employed in the aviation sector.

On the report on electricity tariff, NLC NEC urged the government to immediately address the conditions within its control that were driving up electricity tariff in the country.

It also called on the Federal Government to find ways of shielding Nigerian citizens from the volatilities in the international crude oil market prices, even as it demanded that the template used in determining the pump price of PMS should be reviewed for the benefit of Nigerians.
