Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed several armed bandits following a fierce gunbattle with fighters loyal to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji during an offensive operation in Zamfara State.

Security sources said the operation, carried out by the 8 Division Strike Force, began at about 6:00 a.m. on March 20, targeting Turji’s hideout in the Kagara Forest within Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The mission briefly stalled near Maberaya village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State after two combat support vehicles developed mechanical faults, forcing troops to halt movement.

Seizing the moment, heavily armed bandits launched an ambush from elevated terrain and dense forest cover.
