Soldiers and police shot dead a suspected kidnapper on Thursday night after a seven-man gang stormed the Army Post Service Housing Estate in Kurudu, AMAC, firing sporadically.
The gunmen invaded the estate around 8:47 p.m., triggering an immediate response from troops at the entrance gate and officers from Kurudu Police Division.
Michael Moses, a resident living near the estate, said the joint team engaged the gang in a shootout and foiled the abduction of a business tycoon who lives in the estate.
“The military and the police successfully stopped them. One of the kidnappers was killed,” Moses was quoted to have said by phone in a report by Daily Trust newspaper.
He said police removed the suspect’s corpse.
FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident in a text message, saying the command is investigating.
