The ground troops of the “Operation Thunder Strike” (OPTS) on Friday night foiled an attempted kidnap by bandits of citizens plying the Kaduna-Abuja road.
Confirming the report, Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the State Government received operational feedback that the bandits attempted to operate at the Kasarami axis of the road situated in Chikun local government area about 7:38pm.
He said the troops on aggressive patrols engaged the bandits who dispersed in disarray while the troops pursued them off the road.
Aruwan also stated that many of the bandits seemed to escape with bullet wounds, adding that troops were still trailing them and citizens would be briefed on the development.
He said the rest of the troops manned the road to ensure dissolution of the traffic that built up following their engagement.
Aruwan said the Kaduna State Government apologised to motorists and other road users who suffered delays as a result of the security response.
He said the inconveniences were an unintended consequence of efforts to protect lives and property.
He said the troops were sustaining aggressive fighting patrols to deny the criminals freedom of action.
