Troops of 401 special forces rescue eight kidnapped victims in Benue

In a swift and coordinated operation, troops oɓf the 401 Special Forces Brigade have successfully rescued eight passengers who were kidnapped in Benue State.

The operation was launched after credible intelligence was received regarding a kidnapping incident along the Zaki Biam-Tine Nune Road in Ukum Local Government Area (LGA).

The troops responded quickly to the distress call and mobilized to the area to thwart the activities of the kidnappers.

Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 401 Special Forces Brigade, confirmed the details of the mission, describing the operation as a testament to the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting civilians from criminal activities.

He explained that the kidnappers had ambushed a Taraba Express International Hiace bus with the registration number KLD-543XA, which was traveling from Onitsha to Jalingo with 10 passengers, including the driver.

The armed criminals took the passengers hostage, but the timely arrival of the military forced them to abandon their plans.

Upon realizing that the troops were closing in, the kidnappers fled into the surrounding bush, taking two passengers with them as they retreated.

However, eight passengers, including the driver, were successfully rescued without any casualties.

According to Captain Osabo, the rescued passengers were immediately provided with medical attention, and they are all reported to be in good condition.

Plans are underway to hand them over to the relevant authorities, where they will receive further care and be reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, a follow-up operation has been launched to track down the fleeing kidnappers and ensure the safe rescue of the two remaining victims.

The Nigerian Army has assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice and securing the release of the kidnapped passengers.

This successful rescue operation is part of the broader military efforts to combat rising insecurity and criminality in the region, particularly along major highways where incidents of kidnapping have become more frequent.
