Troops neutralize five terrorists, rescue hostages in Sokoto

Troops from the Nigerian Army engaged in counter-terrorism operations in Sokoto State successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

In a decisive gun battle in the Baniguntu and Gohonau forest area of Gudu Local Government Area, the troops eliminated 5 terrorists and rescued 2 hostages held captive by the group.

Responding swiftly to a distress call, the troops confronted the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in the neutralization of the attackers. Some terrorists fled the scene with injuries sustained during the confrontation.

The rescued hostages, identified as Nura Isya and Saluhu Hamza, were freed from captivity and promptly handed over to the Chairman of Gudu Local Government Area for medical treatment and reunification with their families.

The operation also led to the recovery of significant weaponry, including 5 AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of ammunition, and a Tecno phone, thereby disrupting the activities of the terrorist cell.
