The Nigerian military has recorded another operational breakthrough with the killing of a senior Boko Haram commander, Abu Khalid, during ongoing clearance operations in the North-East.

Reliable military sources told the News Agency of Nigeria that Abu Khalid, described as the second-in-command of the insurgent group in the Sambisa Forest, was among several fighters neutralised in the latest offensive.

His death is seen as a significant blow to the group’s leadership structure and activities within the Sambisa enclave, long regarded as a major stronghold of the terrorists.

According to the sources, Abu Khalid was instrumental in coordinating attacks, logistics and the movement of fighters across parts of the region, making his elimination a major gain for counter-terrorism operations.

The military said troops will sustain the ongoing offensives to flush out remaining insurgents, while urging those still in hiding to surrender and embrace peace.
