In a series of meticulously executed operations, Nigerian Army troops engaged in counter-terrorism efforts have made significant strides in Imo State, capturing key terrorist figures and seizing substantial weapon caches.

Collaborating with other security forces, the troops conducted successful raids on multiple hideouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In Orlu Local Government Area (LGA), notorious kingpins Izuchukwu Emejuru, aka “Kingkong,” and Chibuzor Chikwe, alias “Onyema,” were apprehended. The operation led to the confiscation of a semi-automatic pump-action gun, a locally made gun, a pistol, and valuable items belonging to Eze Ogberuru, whose palace had previously been desecrated and burnt by ESN elements.

Another significant operation took place in Ezeinyen Okwe Umucheke, Onuimo LGA, targeting IPOB/ESN kingpin Chinemerem, aka “Bam Bam.” The raid resulted in Chinemerem’s neutralization as he attempted to reach for his weapon, along with the arrest of several accomplices.

Troops also intercepted suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists at a hideout in Amausa, Okigwe LGA. During the ensuing shootout, the terrorists fled, abandoning ammunition and motorcycles.

Recovered items included 72 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm Special, three rounds of 5.56mm, one FN rifle, a pair of military desert boots, and one green beret.

In a related development, troops tracked and arrested suspected terrorist Ibrahim Abdullahi in Edu LGA, Kwara State.

The operation resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, magazines, and ammunition.

These operations highlight the ongoing commitment and synergy among security forces in tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by terrorist groups and criminal elements, ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.
