Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted five individuals transporting about N37 million in cash under suspicious circumstances in Borno State.
Security sources revealed that the suspects were stopped while traveling in a red Golf wagon, with registration number MNG 463 XA, en route to Magumeri. During a routine checkpoint inspection, troops discovered the large sum of money concealed inside a “Ghana must go” bag and a sack.
Preliminary investigations showed that the two women and three men initially claimed ignorance of the total amount in their possession.
They later alleged that the cash was intended for distribution to beneficiaries of a non-governmental organization.
In addition to the cash, troops recovered about 10 assorted mobile phones from the suspects.
The sources added that the suspects, along with the recovered funds and items, will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Security officials emphasized their continued commitment to rigorous surveillance across operational areas to prevent the movement of illicit funds and other items that could support criminal or insurgent activities.
