In response to the crisis in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Nigerian Army deployed troops from the 3rd Division to restore peace and security.
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the troops accomplished a significant feat by neutralizing three dangerous bandits, according to a statement by the Army.
The news of their success was confirmed by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations.
According to Brigadier General Nwachukwu, the troops displayed exceptional bravery as they encountered and fought their way through a treacherous ambush meticulously set by the bandits.
The ambush had been strategically positioned to hinder the troops’ progress, but their unwavering determination prevailed as they valiantly pushed forward while responding to a distress call in the wider Mangu area.
Following the intense clash, the troops emerged victorious, effectively dismantling the threat posed by the bandits. In their thorough search of the area, they discovered and secured three AK-47 rifles, which had been in possession of the criminals.
Additionally, they confiscated 14 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, a motorcycle that was presumably used by the bandits during their criminal activities, and a Constabulary Police Identity card, indicating a potential connection between the bandits and law enforcement.
With their immediate objective accomplished, the troops are not resting on their laurels. They remain actively engaged in pursuit operations, relentlessly tracking down the bandits who managed to escape the fierce firefight with gunshot wounds.
“This relentless pursuit demonstrates the determination of the troops to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice and the area is fully secured.
“The successful operation by the troops from the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army reflects their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
“Their unwavering dedication and valor in the face of danger serve as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s resolve to protect the lives and property of the citizens they serve,” it said.
