In a decisive move to curb criminal activities in Taraba State, troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a series of successful operations across various Local Government Areas.
According to Acting Assistant Director 6 Brigade Army Public Relations Captain Olubodunde Oni, these operations resulted in the arrest of several criminals, kidnappers, terrorists, and suspected bandits.
He said on August 18, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided a criminal hideout in Takum LGA, leading to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, David Musa. Investigations revealed his connection to a notorious kidnap kingpin, Ephraim, also known as “Skin the Body.” The suspect is currently under further investigation.
In another operation on August 20, 2024, suspected gunrunners James Nuhu and Dan-Asabe Ango were apprehended in Wukari LGA. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to various criminal activities and identified Ibrahim Philemon as their armourer. A subsequent raid on Philemon’s residence led to the recovery of a cache of ammunition and assorted weapons.
Further intelligence-led operations along the Road Chikai-Bantaji Market in Wukari LGA resulted in the arrest of seven suspects involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes. The suspects confessed to possessing illegal firearms. Additionally, a terrorist kingpin and arms trafficker, Isyaka Yusuf, was captured at Bantaki Market. Another operation along the Wukari-Ibi Road led to the arrest of Muhammad Usman and Abdulqadir Sule, who were found in possession of multiple mobile phones, motorcycles, and a significant sum of money.
The troops also intercepted two members of the Konyo-led Tiv Militias, Fidelis Nyitar and Isaiah Ioraa, who were enroute to procure logistics for their militia. Another key suspect, Mela Selim, believed to be the mastermind behind the killing of the Chief of Chanchangi, was also apprehended and is currently under interrogation.
During patrols in Lissam, Kuruku, and Kwesati Communities in Ussa LGA, troops encountered an ambush by terrorists but successfully repelled the attack, forcing the assailants to flee. Weapons and motorcycles were recovered at the scene.
The commander of 6 Brigade expressed gratitude to the people of Taraba State for their support and urged continued cooperation with security forces to ensure lasting peace in the region.
