Troops arrest 16 persons, seize 24,000 litres of stolen products

Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have intensified operations against oil thieves in the Niger Delta, leading to the destruction of 14 illegal refining sites, the arrest of 16 suspects, and the confiscation of over 24,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

In a statement, Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma said the operations, conducted between February 24 and March 2, 2025, were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies.

He said in Bayelsa State, troops dismantled three illegal refining sites in Yenagoa Local Government Area (LGA), recovering over 13,000 litres of stolen crude and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), along with various refining equipment.

In Rivers State, a truck loaded with approximately 7,500 litres of stolen crude was intercepted, while multiple illegal refining sites in Okrika, Omoku, Buguma, and Emohua were dismantled, with large quantities of stolen products seized and destroyed.

Operations in Delta State resulted in the seizure of 1,500 litres of AGO and the arrest of four suspected oil thieves near Warri.

Troops also intercepted a vehicle transporting suspected stolen petroleum products.

In Akwa Ibom, security forces ramped up surveillance along waterways and creeks to disrupt illegal activities.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to sustained operations to combat oil theft and ensure uninterrupted exploration activities in the region.
