Tragedy In Ogun: Celestial Pastor, Wife Found Dead Days After Alleged Domestic Clash

*Community In Shock As Separate Deaths Leave Akinode/Ibogun In Mourning*

A quiet night in Akinode/Ibogun community, Ogun State, turned into a nightmare in the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2026, after a domestic dispute between a Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, ended in tragedy.

What began as a loud altercation inside their home allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation. By dawn, both husband and wife were dead — in separate circumstances and miles apart.

Residents said they were jolted awake around 1am by shouts of “thief, thief.”

Former Chairman of the Community Development Association, Adejimi Olawumi, told Arole TV that he rushed out after hearing the commotion.

“On my way out, I saw Daniel. I asked him what happened, and he said it was his mum and dad,” Olawumi recounted. “Immediately we got inside the house and saw the wife in a pool of blood. At that time, there were no vehicles to take her to the hospital.”

Adenike was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, Daniel, told neighbours he did not witness the fight because he was in another room.

With Adenike’s body discovered, the community realized the evangelist was missing. A search party was raised.

Hours later, disturbing news filtered in: Abidemi Odukoya had been hit by a vehicle in Ifo area of Ogun State.

“The police took him to the hospital, and we confirmed that he was the one,” Olawumi said. “The CDA then started working on how to bring his remains home.”

Odukoya was rushed to hospital but did not survive.

—“They Had Been Fighting For A Long Time”—

In a tearful video circulating online, the late evangelist’s younger sister said the couple’s marriage had been turbulent for months.

“I have been hearing that they have been fighting for a while now. Around April, they came to my house. He explained everything about how he and his wife fought, and that it was at the police station they settled it,” she said.

“I only told them to be patient with each other because it is not right for a husband and wife to fight against each other. And now we just heard that the husband and wife are dead.”

—Burials Days Apart—

The community buried Adenike on the same day she died. Her husband was laid to rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Footage seen by THE PUNCH Metro showed clerics performing burial rites over the evangelist’s remains at an undisclosed location.

“We have never heard or seen something like this happen before,” Olawumi said. “We only know that they fight sometimes and settle it among themselves.”

—Police Investigate—

When contacted, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the incident.

“The police is investigating the incident,” he said.

As of press time, the exact circumstances leading to the deaths remain under investigation.

The double tragedy has left the Akinode/Ibogun community grieving, with residents calling for peace in homes and early intervention in domestic disputes.
