A Magistrate Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 19-year-old trader, Emmanuel Amali, to three months in a correctional centre for stealing a phone.
The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Amali after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge.
The convict was, however, given an option of N10, 000 fine.
Bokkos said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in similar acts.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit , had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 25, at the Divisional Police Station Bassa by Akaso Igmala, the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the convict trespassed into the house, entering through the window, and stole an itel phone before he was caught.
The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.
