● President Urges Governor To Unite Osun, Commends INEC And Security Agencies
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in Osun State, describing the victory as proof that democracy “will continue to flourish in our land.”
In a statement issued Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said he personally called Adeleke to convey his congratulations.
—“I CALLED GOVERNOR ADELEKE”—
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner by INEC after polling 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Bola Oyebamiji who got 444,815 votes.
—CHARGE TO ADELEKE: UNITE OSUN FOR DEVELOPMENT—
The President urged Adeleke to use his second term to bring Osun people together, regardless of how they voted.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” Tinubu said.
—COMMENDATION FOR CONTESTANTS, INEC, SECURITY AGENCIES—
Tinubu also praised other candidates for the “courage and discipline they displayed throughout the electoral process,” saying their participation had helped to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic culture.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he stated.
The President further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission* and *security agencies for conducting what he described as a “peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.”
—CALL FOR RESPECT AND UNITY—
Tinubu’s message came shortly after INEC’s declaration of results. He stressed the need for the electoral outcome to be respected and for the state to “move forward in unity and pursuit of development.”
With Adeleke set for a second term, the President’s call adds to growing pressure on the governor to consolidate his welfare programmes and infrastructure agenda across party lines in Osun.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga and dated August 16, 2026.
