President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demonstrated his unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity in Nigeria by officially integrating two new T-129 ATAK Helicopters and a King Air 360ER Beechcraft into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) inventory today, February 6th, 2024, at the NAF Base in Makurdi.
This addition to the NAF’s arsenal signifies a substantial reinforcement of Nigeria’s capabilities in counterinsurgency, counterterrorism, anti-crude oil theft, and anti-kidnapping operations.
In an official statement, Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet said President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, emphasized the importance of these acquisitions in bolstering national security efforts while addressing the significance of the occasion.
He expressed confidence that these new assets will enhance the NAF’s operational effectiveness in tackling contemporary security challenges within Nigeria and the broader West African region.
President Tinubu stressed the necessity of maintaining discipline in operations and establishing a robust maintenance culture to optimize the performance and longevity of these aircraft.
President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s steadfast commitment to eradicating terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
While acknowledging progress in ongoing counterterrorism endeavors, he emphasized the need for continued vigilance and adaptive strategies until these security threats are fully addressed.
The Minister of Defence, Dr. Badaru Abubakar, commended President Tinubu’s dedication to restoring peace across Nigeria and expressed gratitude for his consistent support to the Armed Forces despite prevailing challenges.
He underscored the importance of adhering to maintenance schedules and safety protocols to ensure the operational readiness of the new aircraft for national security.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the NAF and the entire Armed Forces in combating terrorism and safeguarding the nation.
He outlined plans for the NAF to induct 46 additional aircraft of various types over the next 18 months, emphasizing their pivotal role in achieving national security objectives.
The ceremony, attended by distinguished dignitaries including Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Minister of Information Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Turkish Ambassador Hidayet Bayraktar, and senior military officers, underscores the collaborative effort to advance Nigeria’s security and prosperity.
