President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of one of the teachers abducted from Esiele community in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, and assured that rescue operations are ongoing.
Bandits invaded Esiele community last Friday, abducting staff, students, and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
In a statement released by his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said security operatives were working “around the clock” to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits and their local collaborators.
He was quoted to have said: “I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and the families of the kidnapped victims.”
He stated that the FG would work with the Oyo State government to rescue all victims.
Tinubu commended the IGP and CPs of Oyo and Kwara for deploying tactical and Intelligence Response Teams.
He said the IGP was personally leading the “tech-driven operation” following his instructions.
Tinubu declared that “Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police.”
Tinubu said he expected a breakthrough soon and vowed that “the bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
