The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), formerly Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, has dismissed three lecturers for sexual harassment.

The affected lecturers are Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Mass Communication Department, and Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman, both from the Arts and Design Department.

According to a memo entitled “DISMISSAL OF STAFF MEMBERS DUE TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS,” the decision was reached after deliberations by the institution’s Governing Council in line with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
“The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has taken decisive action in response to allegations of sexual harassment involving three staff members. After a thorough investigation and deliberation, the council has approved the dismissal,” the memo stated.

“This decision, which is effective immediately, is in accordance with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service,” it added.
The university reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment, describing the dismissal as a reflection of its commitment to curbing the rising cases of such misconduct.
“The university takes allegations of sexual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment. The Governing Council’s decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community,” the memo further read.
Confirming the dismissal, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kuye, said that the decision was based on recommendations by the institution’s disciplinary committee.
“It is true. The three of them were dismissed. The Governing Council followed all procedures. We gave them queries before they were dismissed,” he said.
