Court remands businessman for alleged N73.2m fraud

Three men, Abiodun Bakare, Olanrewaju Bashorun, and Oluwaseun Corpe, on Monday, appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly conspiring among themselves to steal N2,651,000,00.

Bakare, 32, Bashorun, 28, and Corpe , 26, whose addresses were not disclosed, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy to wit felony, fraud, stealing and conduct likely cause breach of peace.

The three defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, said the offences were committed on May 20, at furniture bus stop Ijede road, opposite St. Raphael Hospital area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Isaac said the defendants unlawfully obtained N2.651million under false pretence of selling liquor drink without remitting the said amount into the company’s account.

The prosecutor added that the defendants stole the said amount belonging to Sky’s Home Company.

The prosecutor said that the defendants also conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by bringing liquor drinks into the company and selling to customer without the knowledge of Sky Home company.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411, 287, and 168(D) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate Mr B. A. Sonuga granted the defendants bail at N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Sonuga adjourned the case until July 3 for further mention.
