Security operatives have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued a 50-year-old man during a gun duel in Out community, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The operation was launched Monday after a distress call from local hunters who came under fire while in Out on a hunting expedition, according to Oyo Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
A joint team of police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies responded to the scene.
The suspects opened fire on arrival but were overpowered by the superior tactical response of the security team.
The victim, identified as Moshood Gbolagade, had been abducted earlier in Okaka community and held captive in Out. He sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barreled gun, and a machete from the scene. One local hunter was also injured in the exchange and is undergoing treatment.
Oyo Commissioner of Police Olugbemiga Abimbola commended the bravery and synergy displayed by the operatives and local hunters.
The command said it would sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements and urged residents to provide credible and timely information.
