Three security officials have been killed in Gujba, Yobe State, after Boko Haram insurgents stormed the community some 30 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital on Thursday.

Some residents told Channels Television that the attackers stormed the community in a van and drove straight to a company constructing the 40 Kilometer Gujba-Mutai road, killing two mobile police officers and one member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) before burning down the heavy-duty machines on the site.

While security authorities have yet to confirm the attack, residents told Channels Television that the attackers stayed on the scene for hours unconfronted before returning to the bush.

This is not the first time the community is being attacked by insurgents, according to sundry accounts.

In an ambush in January this year, several military officials were also killed.
