Life – in its varied nuances – has smiled on Clerk to the National Assembly, CNA, Kamorudeen Ogunlana, Esq., as he clocked 58 on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
His journey in life has been defined by divine providence. Even though life might not have been a bed of roses growing up as a child, yet the same life has chosen, at the intersection of the apex of his public service, to be somewhat beautiful and inspiring.
The challenges and difficulties faced growing up had consciously shaped the man who is now at the helm of the administrative wing of Nigeria’s federal legislature.
He is calm, simple, quiet, and sharply focused. But then, Kamorudeen Ogunlana’s fastidiousness as against the characteristic perfunctory attitude by leaders in public service has most times cast him in the mould of a strict, non-bending honcho in the affairs of NASS bureaucracy. This is because of his determination to get proper perspectives to issues before weighing in with his obligatory approbation.
His philosophy about life transcends cultural, religious, and ethnic considerations. One of his very strong and poignant positions finds anchorage in one’s ability and capacity to deliver on goals or assignments.
A lot of people (particularly staff members of the national Assembly) have had to inquire from his close friends, colleagues, and acquaintances about his personality. Many perceive him to be somewhat taciturn and sphinxlike in the way he goes about doing things. However, that perception is not strong enough to stand as the administration of the bureaucracy is steadily unfolding as disciplined and goal-oriented on his watch. Kamorudeen Ogunlana is a team player. This is evident in his regular monthly management meetings, where issues are thoroughly discussed and decisions arrived at.
Another perception is that staff members’ salary is delayed. His response, according to a grapevine is this: “I don’t have to borrow and pay interest for the borrowed funds, when 26th day of the month is not far from 30/31 as the case maybe.” His prudent approach to managing scarce resources since assuming office is unprecedented.
Most policy decisions and actions are results of robust conversations and superior reasoning before any major engagement happens. That is quite salutary in a system that is tentative and where processes could be dilatory at the altar of intrigues, politics, and other considerations.
Kamorudeen Ogunlana’s focus remains to bring the national assembly to a place of pride, a place where institutional integrity flourishes, indeed, a place where many will want to run to for answers on legislative matters.
So far, Kamoru has not deviated from the core values of the legislature. In his few days, weeks and months in office as the Clerk to the National Assembly, everyone can testify that he’s on the right track, working assiduously round the clock to galvanize the full potential of the legislative arm for the good of country.
Still in the mood of his birthday celebration, one can only wish him the best and many happy returns, even as he ups hus ante to reposition the administration architecture of the highest legislative body in the land for effective public service delivery.
Belated Happy birthday, Sir!
