Tension has gripped residents of Osi community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State following the abduction of a farm estate owner, Olanrewaju Oyeleye, and his manager.
The gunmen, according to sources, invaded the farm at the weekend and abducted the two victims.
The farm is located a few kilometres from the Akure airport.
A family source said the gunmen had made contact and demanded a ransom of N100 million before the victims could be released.
The Akure airport axis has become a dreaded area, as criminals, particularly kidnappers, have turned communities in the area into choice spots for their operations.
The family source added that Oyeleye, 50, had four years ago relocated from overseas to set up the mechanised farm in Akure.
While confirming the incident, the Commander of Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, who stated that operatives had been deployed in the area to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers, said, “Our men are working tirelessly to ensure the victims are rescued from the abductors, as we are tracking their location.”
Meanwhile, following the latest incidents coupled with incessant kidnappings in the area, residents of Akure North, particularly in the Oba-Ile, Osi and Eleyewo axes, have been gripped with fear and tension.
With the news of the abduction of Oyeleye and his manager filtering into town, other farmers hurriedly abandoned their farms and rushed home. [Daily Post]
