A senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Simon Mwadkwon, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.
His emergence has trumped the bid of former speaker of the House of commons and immediate past governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Tambuwal’s scheming prowess failed him this time round. He had schemed his way to the speakership of the House against the run of play, deafating the anointed candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mulikat Adeola, to the coveted seat.
Adeolacwould later be compensated with the position of House Leader to pacify the party.
Mwadkwon was announced as the Minority Leader by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at plenary in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mwadkwon brushed aside the immediate past governor of Sokoto State to the position.
Akpabio also announced Sen. Oyewumi Olalere (PDP-Osun) as Deputy Minority Leader; Sen. Darlington Nwokocha (LP-Abia) as Senate Minority Whip; and Sen. Rufai Hanga (NNPP-Kano) as Senate Deputy Minority Whip.
The Senate President had earlier announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti) as Majority Leader of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio also announced Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume (APC-Borno) as the Chief Whip; Senator David Umahi (APC-Ebonyi) as the Deputy Leader; and Senator Lola Ashiru (APC-Kwara) as Deputy Chief Whip.
