Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed has met with Nigeria’s Ambassador to Egypt, Nura Rimi for the prospect of conveying the country’s citizens stranded in Sudan as a result of the ongoing crisis.
NEMA’s Head, Public Relations, Manzo Ezekiel revealed the information on Tuesday when he posted a photo of the two leaders taken shortly after the meeting.
The meeting was held to discuss the reception preparation for Nigerians expected to be moved from Sudan to Egypt before airlifting to Nigeria.
The crisis in Sudan erupted following an apparent power struggle between the two main factions of the country’s military regime.
The United Nations, (UN) had said that nearly 180 people had been killed and another 1,800 injured in three days of fighting between the rival factions in Sudan
Since the crisis, Nigeria’s federal government had been evacuating the its citizens in batches amid an outcry for expedited action from families with loved ones in Sudan.
The federal government’s evacuation efforts were assisted by NEMA, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Organization for Migration, (IOM) and other stakeholders.
