The Atiku Media Office has accused former SGF Babachir Lawal of “revisionism” and personal attacks, saying Babachir was “in a state of stupor” while Atiku Abubakar was condemning terrorist and banditry attacks and proffering solutions.

In a press release signed Sunday, June 7, 2026 by Paul Ibe, the office said Babachir’s latest remarks were an attempt to rewrite his “disgraceful public service record” and deflect from “failed efforts to rig the ADC presidential primary”.

–“Babachir should address his own record first”–

The Atiku camp said instead of addressing allegations that he “extorted money to deliver the presidential ticket” during the ADC primary, Babachir has resorted to attacks on Atiku.

“Babarachir Lawal may have been preoccupied with hitting the sauce, but it is public record that the Waziri had always spoken against terrorist and banditry attacks and shown empathy to communities attacked,” the statement read.

The office added that Babachir’s claims ignore Atiku’s consistent condemnations despite being Fulani from Adamawa in the North East.

-Atiku’s security proposals on record–

The statement listed 5 positions Atiku has repeatedly pushed on insecurity:

1. Condemnation and criticism of FG: Atiku has “forcefully” condemned attacks and kidnappings across Nigeria and criticized the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu for relying on “empty statements” instead of decisive, preventive action.

2. Overhaul of counterterrorism: He has called for the National Assembly to pass legislation allowing state governments to arm their security outfits with modern weapons to complement overstretched federal forces.

3. Localised intelligence: He urged community members to provide intelligence to security agencies and avoid acting as informants for armed groups.

–Victims’ support framework–

Proposed a National Victims and Survivors Support Framework for psychological support, education, and economic recovery for affected communities.

–Capital punishment for terror–

In recent engagements, Atiku proposed Special Courts to try terror suspects and “hand capital punishment” to those found guilty.

“Those engagements covered every state of the country without exception,” Paul Ibe said, citing multiple news reports of Atiku’s statements on Benue, Plateau, Borno, Kaduna, and others.
