The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has extended the ultimatum issued to the federal government by 24 hours, following the expiration of an earlier 10-day ultimatum.
The NARD President, Tope Osundara, disclosed this on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Osundara said the decision to extend the ultimatum was taken after a meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC).
The resident doctors are demanding the immediate payment of the outstanding 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to all eligible resident doctors, the settlement of the outstanding five months’ arrears of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), the commencement of payment of specialist allowances to all doctors, and the restoration of the recognition of the West African postgraduate membership certificates to their rightful status.
Osundara told TheCable: “A 24-hour extension of the ultimatum has been given, and the concerns are still the same.
“It’s mainly about welfare. We also have issues of shortage of manpower in almost all healthcare centres and facilities across the nation.”
On the immediate steps expected from the government, the NARD boss said: “The low-hanging fruits are the MRTF 2025, correction of the downgrading of membership certificate, and the payment of our 2024 accoutrement allowance arrears.
