The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has described as inglorious lies, baseless and perfidious the statement credited to the chairman of a splinter group, The Osun Progressives (TOP), Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, that there was an attack and assassination attempt on some leaders of the group by government officials believed to be cabinet members of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola.
The party said it frowned at Elder Adebiyi’s fabricated allegation, adding that he failed to substantiate his claims with verifiable facts and evidence.
The party said there was no shred of truth in the allegations.
The party noted that it was surprised that the calibre of Elder Adebiyi as a religious leader and immediate past chairman of the ruling party in the state could be dishing out unfounded and fabricated lies to misinform the public purposely to discredit the ruling party and the government, all in the name of politics.
The reaction signed by party’s Director, Directorate of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi and made available to the media on Friday in Osogbo, the state capital, enjoined the media to always seek truth and propagate facts without which the public will be terribly misled and stay unenlightened.
According to the party, “it is high time those charged with the responsibility to maintain laws and orders in the state to properly investigate the allegations whether there was any record of assassination attempt in Osun and let the public know who the liars are.”
He then called the leadership of the Adebiyi led TOP to stop their act of wicked propagation of lies, capable of destabilizing the state”.
Oyatomi stressed that the leadership of TOP has taken it too far by seriously heating up the polity, noting that it is like comparing “Hell fire with Paradise” when comparing the state of security during the inglorious PDP days in Osun to the present Oyetola-led government.
He noted that what Adebiyi led TOP group has made of itself in the state is not only a laughing stock and shame to democratic politics but it has shown the public that leadership of the splinter group are on self-serving motive and they do not want the current APC led government to succeed in its bid for a deserving second term.
Oyatomi advised the leadership of TOP to shun politics of ill-will, hatred and enmity and support the APC led government of Oyetola to move Osun to the highest level for the sake of the entire citizens of the state.
The APC called on all loyal members and supporters of the party to distance themselves from any frivolous and obnoxious activities capable of tarnishing the image of the party but rather be resolute in their unalloyed support to the APC led government for all and sundry to experience more of progressive developmental projects for the betterment of everyone in the state of Osun.
It will be recalled that, The Osun Progressive (TOP) on Thursday at a press conference organised raised the alarm over an alleged planned violent attack and assassination of its leaders.
The TOP Chairman, Revd Adebiyi while fielding questions from journalists at the conference said, since some members of the group were attacked by thugs during the parallel ward Congress held recently in the state, there was information that TOP leaders were next to be visited with terror.
