Stakeholders in the Niger Delta have commended the Nigerian Military, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), and Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) for raising Nigeria’s oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd).
The Niger Delta Youth Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYCPP), in a statement, attributed the achievement to coordinated efforts to combat oil theft, illegal bunkering, and pipeline vandalism.
This progress aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s July directive to Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to tackle oil theft undermining the nation’s economy.
Comrade Engr. George Okitikpi, NDYCPP Vice President, highlighted the involvement of local youth as a sustainable model for securing national assets and empowering host communities. “The community engagement initiatives by PINL and the Nigerian Military’s swift response to intelligence have been instrumental in this success,” he said.
Okitikpi also praised PINL’s proactive approach, which includes employing thousands of youths from host communities and fostering collaboration to safeguard vital infrastructure. These efforts have deterred illicit activities and strengthened trust among locals.
The NDYCPP expressed gratitude to NNPCL for endorsing participatory strategies and called for continued cooperation to sustain growth in Nigeria’s oil sector.
