Representatives from government departments, development partners, farmer organizations, smallholder farmers’ organizations, the private sector, women’s groups, youths, IFAD project staff members, and rural entrepreneurs have launched the National Technical initiative for Nigeria’s 2024-2029 Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP) Design.
The launch was at Consultation Workshop held on Wednesday, which brought together various stakeholders with interest in Nigeria’s agriculture development.
The workshop was to commence the design phase of the COSOP, which was an important strategic plan that would guide the development of Nigeria’s agriculture and food systems over the next five years.
The COSOP will serve as a roadmap for collaboration between IFAD and the Federal Government of Nigeria, and it will aim to strengthen the impact of cooperation in the agri-food systems transformation agenda.
Ms Dede Ekoue, the Country Director for IFAD in Nigeria, delivered a speech at the technical workshop in which she emphasized the significance of the COSOP as a milestone in the development collaboration between IFAD and the Nigerian government.
She also highlighted the importance of aligning the COSOP with national policies and priorities, including the National Development Plan 2021-2025, Agriculture and Food Delivery Compact 2023, National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy 2022-2027, and the UN Sustainable Development Framework.
