Omoyele Sowore: vows to fight for Raye’s NYSC certificate...

Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has condemned what he called the “misuse of legal processes” in the case involving ex-Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, warning courts against turning bail into a tool of intimidation.

In a post on his official page Monday, Sowore accused authorities of deploying “lawfare” against el-Rufai and urged the judiciary to protect the rule of law by granting bail where due and guaranteeing fair trials.

“Bail is a constitutional right, not a tool for punishment or intimidation,” Sowore wrote.

He argued that using bail conditions to restrict individuals unjustly erodes public trust in the justice system and must be rejected “regardless of who is involved.”

Sowore did not cite specific bail terms imposed on el-Rufai, but said the broader trend of weaponizing legal procedure threatens fairness and due process.

The former governor has faced multiple court appearances since leaving office in 2023. Details of his current case were not listed in Sowore’s post.

Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow, has himself faced prolonged bail battles and travel restrictions in past trials, often criticizing similar conditions as punitive.
