Onoyeleu Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has taken to his verified Facebook account to voice serious allegations against former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the current governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, regarding the controversial Ekiti Airport project.
In a post on his Facebook page, Sowore entitled it “Former Governor Fayemi’s Fake Ekiti Airport Project And Rano Air’s Tsetse Fly Flight Scam.”
In his post, Sowore highlighted the ongoing issues surrounding the airport project, stating, “The Ekiti Airport project, initiated by former Governor Kayode Fayemi, remains uncompleted amidst allegations of massive fraud involving the current governor, his successor.”
He detailed an event he described as staged, emphasizing, “My response today is to highlight on a ‘test flight’ arranged by Fayemi, involving a Rano Air jet landing at the airport which was a staged event to counter claims that the airport is non-operational.”
Sowore questioned the legitimacy of the airport, asserting that “the airport’s licensing and completion status are doubtful with concerns raised by aviation regulators about its ability to handle commercial flights.”
He further criticized the airport’s lack of a definitive three-letter code, suggesting, “it is the reason the airport is without a definitive three-letter code like Akure which is ‘AKR’ but let’s just call this ‘EFA’—Ekiti Fraud Airport, Ado Ekiti. And of course, don’t expect to book a flight to Ado-Ekiti (DNET).”
Sowore accused Fayemi’s successor of financial mismanagement, noting, “Fayemi’s successor has already invested significant funds to advance the project, because it was incomplete when it was commissioned at the time another fraudulent character, former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, connived with Fayemi to commission the airport in 2022.”
Sowore expressed his frustrations with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating, “the EFCC persists in subterfuge, refusing to apprehend Fayemi for the massive misappropriation of funds during his tenure.”
As discussions surrounding the Ekiti Airport project continue to escalate, Sowore’s allegations have raised pressing questions about governance and accountability within the state.
