South-East APC dismisses N800bn fraud claim against Uzodimma, links it to 2027 Senate bid

The South-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed allegations that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma diverted N800 billion meant for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign, calling the claim politically motivated.

In a statement on Wednesday, APC National Vice-Chairman (South-East) Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu said the accusation surfaced after Uzodimma indicated interest in contesting the Imo East senatorial seat in 2027.

“Uzodimma remains unwavering in his commitment to delivering good governance, sustainable development, and improved welfare for the people of Imo, and will not be distracted by such baseless accusations,” the party said.

The South-East APC argued that the N800 billion figure was unrealistic, noting it would mean each of the 31 Progressive Governors Forum members contributed about N26 billion.

“This figure is not only unrealistic but laughable. No governor, regardless of political affiliation, would commit such a colossal sum to a national campaign while simultaneously prosecuting re-election or other critical state-level political activities,” it said.

The party also pointed to legal restrictions on political campaigns until September, saying it was impossible to divert or misappropriate funds for an exercise that had not started.

It defended Uzodimma’s record, stating he had maintained transparency and accountability throughout his public service career and had never been credibly linked to financial impropriety.

The APC urged opposition groups to desist from discrediting its leaders, adding that responsible media had ignored the report due to lack of substance.

“Nigerians are sophisticated enough to distinguish between genuine governance and cheap political fiction,” the statement said.
