The Sokoto State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed Maccido, has assured residents of the government’s dedication to ensuring uninterrupted water supply across the state.

Maccido highlighted the administration of Governor Aliyu Ahmed’s strategic focus on completing several key water supply projects, which are currently in advanced stages. Once completed, these initiatives are expected to significantly address the long-standing issue of water scarcity in the state.

Speaking during an interview in his office, the commissioner emphasized the governor’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, particularly in the water sector.
“Upon completion of these projects, we will have the capacity to consistently provide water to the people of Sokoto State,” Maccido stated.

He underscored the critical role of power supply in sustaining water infrastructure, noting that efforts are underway to secure reliable electricity to support water treatment and distribution.
“Power is as essential as the chemicals used in water treatment, and we are working to ensure sufficient power supply to meet our water delivery targets,” he added.

Maccido also appealed to residents to support the government’s efforts by addressing water leakages to minimize wastage.
“I urge the people of Sokoto to fix leakages and use water judiciously. The cost of producing water far exceeds the revenue collected from payments. Every drop saved counts,” he said.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed for prioritizing the water sector, comparing the current investment to the significant progress achieved during the tenure of Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

In addition to urban water projects, Maccido announced plans to deliver rural water schemes aimed at providing consistent water supply to underserved communities. He assured that these projects would be completed by the end of the current fiscal year, fulfilling another key campaign promise of Governor Ahmed.

He also highlighted other recent achievements of the ministry, including the installation and reconnection of pipelines and the replacement of submersible pumps to enhance the state’s water infrastructure.
