In a bid to ensure public safety and restore order, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has announced a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, starting at midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

According to Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor of Plateau State Gyang Bere, the decision, made in consultation with state security agencies, comes in response to recent criminal activities who are exploiting nationwide protests.

Governor Mutfwang condemned the actions of individuals who, armed with weapons such as daggers and machetes, looted shops and restaurants on Bauchi Road and at Zololo Junction.

These elements capitalized on the protest to perpetrate violence and theft, endangering innocent lives.

To ensure the safety of all residents, the governor urged full compliance with the curfew and directed security forces to strictly enforce it.

He issued a stern warning to those considering further acts of violence, stressing that they would face severe legal consequences.

Governor Mutfwang thanked the citizens of Plateau State, especially religious leaders, for their support and peaceful conduct during the recent protests.

He praised their adherence to government directives and their commitment to maintaining peace.

“The commendable peaceful behavior of our people before, during, and after the protests is a testament to our collective desire for a harmonious society,” said Governor Mutfwang.

“I encourage everyone to continue fostering a culture of peace as we strive for a united and progressive Plateau,” he added.
