Kaduna State Government confirmed that six persons were killed on Friday after bandits opened fire on commuters along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road resulting in fatal auto crash

The State Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said security agencies reported that bandits opened fire on commuters along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road.

He said according to the report, the bandits who were on the run from aggressive patrols in the Birnin Gwari general area, took to the highway around Ungwan Dangedda, and as they retreated, shot at several vehicles.

Aruwan said the driver of one commercial vehicle was hit, and lost control of the vehicle, which somersaulted several times before coming to a stop.

He said the bandits then fled the location and rescue efforts disclosed that six persons Abdurrashid Ya’u, Sa’idu Ya’u, Ramatu Ya’u, Suwaiba Ali, Sulaiman Ustaz and an unidentified infant,
died on the spot from the crash, while Ubale Yahuza, Rabiu Ibrahim, Umar Musa, Saude Yusuf, Mohammed Aminu and Kadima Mercy suffered injuries.

The Commissioner said Governor Nasir el-Rufai expressed sadness at the report, and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who perished in the crash, while also sending his condolences to their families.

He reportedly prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Meanwhile, Air platforms conducted armed reconnaissance over Rahama, Albasu, Sabon Birni, Rikau, Fadama Kanauta, Kerawa, Galadimawa, Kaya, Fatika, Doka, Kidandan, Saulawa, Dogon Dawa, Ngade Allah, Kuduru, Yadi, Damari, Takama, Sabuwa, Ungwar Yako and the connecting track to Kuduru, and the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, in Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Igabi and Giwa local government areas of the State.

Aruwan said operational feedback to the State Government, showed that bandits with herds of cattle were sighted about 11km northwest of Sabon Birni, attempting to take cover from the fighter jet and they were engaged and neutralized.

The Commissioner further stated that ground troops at Sabon Birni reported a calm situation. All other areas covered were likewise calm with no suspicious activity observed.

Receiving the report, Governor Nasir el-Rufai commended the troops and crew for a successful mission and encouraged them to sustain the tempo.
