The Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has issued a stern warning to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, over the sit-at-home order in the Southeast.

Lagbaja warned that the Nigerian Army would no longer condone IPOB’s sit-at-home in the southeast.

To this end, Lagbaja ordered soldiers to patrol all flash points and ensure that residents of the southeast go about their businesses without disturbance.

Lagbaja’s directive was contained in a statement signed by the Army spokesman, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

He condemned the sit-at-home order issued by IPOB’s factional leader, Simon Ekpa.

The statement reads partly: “The renewed threat by IPOB to compel the people in southeastern Nigeria to sit at home is not only appalling but a violation of the fundamental rights of southeastern Nigerians and, therefore, unlawful. This will never be condoned.

“The Chief of Army Staff has handed down clear directives to the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army operating in synergy with other security agencies to ensure robust patrols to dominate all flashpoints and emplace measures to ensure citizens are free to go about their legitimate businesses.”
