Shell Nigeria Gas hosts industry forum, onboards two new customers as gas adoption push grows

Shell Nigeria Gas has hosted a Business and Investment Forum in Port Harcourt to push natural gas adoption as manufacturers seek lower costs and more reliable energy.

The event brought together manufacturers, investors, development agencies and policymakers to explore how gas can cut operating costs, improve productivity and boost competitiveness in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta.

It coincided with the onboarding of two new industrial customers in Agbara, Ogun State – Intercontinental Distillers Limited II and Rumbu Industries Limited – into SNG’s distribution network. The additions bring SNG’s industrial customer base to over 150 firms, many reporting improved efficiency and financial performance.

SNG’s Head of Gas Distribution, Chukwuka Amos-Ejesi, said companies switching to gas see “lower and more predictable energy costs, reduced exposure to liquid fuel price volatility, enhanced operational uptime, improved planning certainty, and stronger competitive offering for their customers.”

Representatives from NMDPRA, the Bank of Industry, the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, MAN Rivers and Bayelsa chapters, and the Port Harcourt and Niger Delta chambers of commerce attended.

At the forum, SNG executed Gas Sales and Purchase Agreements with Boskel Nigeria Limited and Bluefinn Global Resource Limited in Rivers and Bayelsa states. The supply to Intercontinental Distillers II and Rumbu Industries is equivalent to about 4MW of electricity.

Idaere Gogo Ogan, representing the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, said over 500 companies in the region have shut down in recent years, adding that “effective utilization of gas can significantly reshape industrial practices and revive business activity.”

SNG Managing Director Ralph Gbobo said the milestones “underscore our commitment to expanding our gas distribution footprint, deepening customer engagement, and supporting Nigeria’s industrial growth.”

Founded in 1998, SNG currently supplies gas to industrial customers in Abia, Bayelsa, Ogun and Rivers states.
